A woman in harmony with her spirit is like a river flowing.
She goes where she will without retense and arrives at her destination, prepared to be herself and only herself.
~ Maya Angelou

I am prepared for my birth.

The Rose My cervix is like a rosebud
Ready to Open
I am nurtured by those around me as the rose is nurtured by the soil
The rosebud gradually, ever so softly, opens and blossoms.
I open and blossom.
My cervix is soft and ripe like a rosebud.
I see the outer petals of te rose falling away
I see my cervix yielding like the outer petals of the rose.
Every contraction opens another petal of my rosebud cervix.
I welcome each contraction, which helps me open my rosebud cervix.
I welcome and receive all the nurturing around me, which helps me open.
Just like the warm sun opens the rose, the warmth I receive opens my cervix.
I yield and open.
The rose does not resist.
I open and blossom.
~ Barbara Harper “Gentle Birth Choices”

I surrender my birthing over to my baby and my body.

Picture

My body has a wide open space for my baby to descend. There is nothing in the way.

The power and intensity of my contractions cannot be stronger than me, because it is me.

I will emerge from uncertainty into great peace and freedom.

Keep breathing slow and even.  Inhale peace, exhale tension.

I show absolutely no signs of fear or concern.

I surrender my birthing over to my baby and my body.

Keep my mind on acceptance and surrender.

My Ancestors guide me.
I feel them as they emerge through me.

I feel the strong waves of labour and know that everything is normal and progressing.

Relax my mind and muscles.

Courage, faith and patience.

My body knows how to have this baby just as my body knew how to grow this baby.

We’ve all been waiting for you.
For you.
Your arrival has been marked,
has been recorded on earth,
in the universe,
in the galaxies,
in all of space,
in all of time.

Picture

Don't push the river, it flows by itself.

I am completely cooperating with my body.

I trust in my ability to give birth.

I surrender to the contractions and relinquish control of the forces within my body.

I accept that others may not be as focused as I am on the baby,

and I release any concerns about what others are doing,
and I choose to take care of myself first.

I do not fight the birth in any way. My body is totally relaxed. I am not afraid.

Birth is an easy and natural occurrence for which my body has been perfectly designed.

I allow my body’s natural anesthesia to flow through my body.

The same movements that get the baby in, get the baby out.

This is a new birth and a new baby unique unto itself.

Dawn of your hand I could say this
a bird poised mid-air in flight
as delicate and smooth.
Of your mouth
a foxglove in its taking
without edges or hurt.
This of your ear
a tiny sea-horse, immortal
sporting in white waves
and of your eye
a place where no one could hide
nothing lurk.
Of your cupped flesh
smooth in my palm
an agate on the sea-shore.
Of your back and belly
that they command kisses.
And of your feet I would say
they are inquisitive and gay
as squirrels or birds
and so return to your hand
and begin my voyage
around your loveliness
again and yet again
as in my arms you lie sleeping.
~ Jeni Couzyn, South Africa

I see my last birth as a learning experience from which I am growing and changing.

My breath is easy, deep, and full.

My baby will be born at the perfect moment.

I am open to the energy of birth.

I embrace the wisdom of my body.

The stronger my contractions become, the sooner I meet my baby.

I am connected to myself. I am connected to my husband. We are connected to our baby.

Picture

I notice when I get tense, and I consciously relax those areas of my body.

I am in sync with my body and my intuition.

I take care with comments from others,
and recognize even well wishers can inadvertently give me suggestions that might diminish my belief in myself.
I take myself away from these people quickly and easily.
